Timothy Jones, bass

 

A native of Shreveport, Louisiana, Timothy Jones is rapidly emerging as one of the leading bass-baritones of his generation.  A champion of contemporary works and composers, he is equally at home on the opera and concert stage as he is in the more intimate settings of chamber music and solo recital.  Acclaimed throughout North and South American and across Europe, he has been hailed by fans and critics alike as a singer with a commanding vocal technique, intelligent musicianship, and a unique ability to connect and communicate with audiences.  He has taken on leading operatic roles with the Pensacola Opera, Ars Lyrica Houston, Lyric Opera of San Antonio, Opera Birmingham, Michigan Opera Theater, and Connecticut Opera, among others, in roles ranging from Alidoro in La Cenerentola to Friar Lawrence in Romeo et Juliette, Jake in Porgy and Bess, and Germont in La Traviata.  Highlights of his concert career include performances with the Baltimore Symphony, Cleveland Orchestra, Dallas Symphony,  Utah Symphony, Detroit Symphony, Virginia Symphony, San Antonio Symphony, Buffalo Philharmonic, and the Pittsburgh New Music Ensemble in repertoire that includes Handel’s Messiah, Mozart’s Requiem, Hadyn’s Creation, Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9, Verdi’s Requiem, Bach’s St. John Passion, Vaughan Williams’ Dona Nobis Pacem, Brett Dietz's Headcase, and Heuser’s Immaculate, Bored, Off-Key and Vain. He has been heard on National Public Radio’s Performance Today and has recorded a program of art songs in Sweden.
