Alberto Mizrahi, tenor

 

Greek-born tenor, Alberto Mizrahi, one of the world's leading interpreters of Jewish music, is Hazzan of the historic Anshe Emet Synagogue, Chicago. He has thrilled audiences worldwide in recitals, symphony concerts, and opera.   His repertoire, spanning nine languages and a myriad of styles, makes his performances unique in the field.

 

Hazzan Mizrahi’s 2014-2015 season include the Schoenberg “Kol Nidre” with Riccardo Muti and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, the Beethoven Society’s “Penderecki 80 Festival”-Warsaw Philharmonic, and recitals in the Teatro Verdi (Pisa), Chicago, Copenhagen, Dallas, Detroit, Miami, New York, Palm Springs, and Strasburg (France). He has performed in front of two U.S. Presidents; George W. Bush, at the White House Hanukkah celebration and Barack Obama, at the U. S. Capitol for Days of Remembrance as well as in Interfaith programs with Moslem and Christian musicians in the U.S., Morocco and Israel. Having sung under Maestro Krzysztof Penderecki numerous times in the U.S., Poland, Austria and Venezuela, his recording of the “Kadysz” with the Warsaw Philharmonic is being released by Naxos, Spring 2015. Alberto has been featured on PBS television, as well as having understudied Luciano Pavarotti, and performed and recorded with the legendary jazz pianist, Dave Brubeck and his quartet (“Gates of Justice”) and with the great Theodore Bikel (“Our Song”).

 

Hazzan Mizrahi is the incoming President  of the Cantors Assembly, on the Board of the Zamir Choral Foundation, and on the faculty of the H.L. Miller Cantorial School-J.T.S., New York.
