FOUR was commissioned by the Lincoln Center Institute Summer Session 1980, performed three times for teachers during the 1980 summer session, and toured 26 New York City Public Schools in 1980-81.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

NOTE                                                                                                                                                                                                                                             Sergio Cervetti and Kenneth Rinker have collaborated on over 30 music and dance works since 1966 beginning with Six Sequences for Dance; co-founded the Berlin Dance Ensemble in West Berlin, Germany in 1969; and incorporated Rinker-Cervetti Dance & Music, Inc. in New York City in 1979, the foundation which supported their collaborative work up until 1988 and the ballet Rebel Angels commissioned by the Hartford Ballet Company.

KENNETH RINKER, a popular experimentalist, formed the Kenneth Rinker Dance Company in 1979, capturing the attention of major critics and enthusiastic audiences. In addition to New York City seasons, the company has toured throughout the U.S. including performances at the Kennedy Center, Walker Arts Center, Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival and PepsiCo Summerfare’85, and teaching residencies at the American Dance Festival, University of California at Long Beach, American, New York and George Mason Universities. Boston Ballet commissioned Mr. Rinker to create When the Cat’s Away which received its premiere at the Wang Center earlier this month. Mr. Rinker’s work also includes choreography for Elizabeth Swados’s Alice with Meryl Streep for the New York Shakespeare Festival and the musical Swing at the Kennedy Center.  He was assistant to Twyla Tharp for the filming of Hair.  He created the dance scenes for Robert Benton’s Places in the Heart, and was choreographer for Sally Field’s newest film, Murphy’s Romance.  Awarded a Fulbright Fellowship, Mr. Rinker was in residence at the National School of Dance in Montevideo, Uruguay in 1986. Mr. Rinker and the company have received fellowships and company grants from the National Endowment for the Arts each year since 1978. Mr. Rinker’s work has also been supported by the Jerome Foundation, New York State Council on the Arts, Mobil Foundation, Robert Sterling Clark Foundation, and Warren, Gorham and Lamont.
