GREG D'ALESSIO

 

Greg D'Alessio is a professor of composition at Cleveland State University, where he is also the coordinator of the electronic and computer music program. Among his honors and awards as a composer are a commission from the Koussevitsky Foundation in the Library of Congress, The Aaron Copland Prize, a Guggenheim Foundation fellowship, The Cleveland Arts Prize, 2 Ohio Arts Council Individual Artist Awards, the Board of Director’s Prize from the Society for electro-acoustic music (SEAMUS), The Commuinity Partnership for Arts and Culture fellowship, and the Otto Ettinger fellowship to the Tanglewood Music Festival. He has also been granted artistic residencies at the Corporation at Yaddo, MacDowell Colony, The Virginia Center for the Creative Arts, and The Atlantic Center for the Arts, and Ragdale. His music has been chosen for performance at conferences of the Society of Composers International (SCI) and the Society for Electro-acoustic music US (SEAMUS).

 

His works have been performed throughout the United States and Europe by such groups as The Da Capo Chamber Players, the Slee Sinfonietta, the Dali String Quartet, Earplay, The Ars Futura Ensemble, The Neo-Tessares Saxophone Quartet, No Exit, the Cleveland Chamber Symphony and many others. His work “Smoke and Mirrors” for Chamber Orchestra and tape was called “ a considerable creation… full of cataclysm and majesty in equal measure” by the Cleveland Plain dealer and his piece “Veil” for flute and string trio was called “expressive and beautiful…full of anguished tenderness” by the San Francisco Classical Voice.

 

Ars Futura Ensemble is a Cleveland-based collective of classically trained musicians, dedicated to commissioning and performing new music. Their mission is to nurture the evolution of modern music through collaboration with living composers. Shuai Wang, piano ; Luke rinderknecht, percussion: Madeline Lucas Tolliver, Flute; Benjamin Chen, Clarinet, Yunting Lee, Violin; Daniel Pereira, Cello.
