Richard Mix

Richard Mix (bass) appears with over a dozen Bay Area opera companies singing a repertoire that embraces Wagner and Monteverdi as well as Scelsi and Stockhausen. A former cellist, he made his singing debut as Truelove in Berkeley Contemporary Opera's 1992 production of The Rake's Progress and went on to the Darmstädter Sommerferienkurse für neue Musik, where he was awarded a Patenring grant and re-invited in 1994 and 1996. West coast premieres range from Arthur in Maxwell Davis' The Lighthouse to C.P.E. Bach's 1789 Matthaeuspassion. Recent roles are Wotan in Die Walküre, Gremin in Eugene Onegin, and the Nabokovian title role in Vladimir in Butterfly Country by Ann Callaway.

Megan Stetson

Mezzo-soprano Megan Stetson is a professional vocalist and music instructor living in California’s Bay Area. She is an active performer, both nationally and internationally, experienced in a variety of musical genres including opera, musical theater, cabaret, symphonic/oratorio repertoire, as well as new music works. She holds a Bachelor of Music in Classical Vocal Performance from Northwestern University, as well as a Masters of Music in the same specialty from San Francisco State University. Megan’s credits as a recording artist stretch from film work, such as her collaboration with Prospector Films in Quebec, Canada on their documentary film Last Woman Standing to the 2016 release of the album entitled “Sorrow” a re-imagining of Henryk Górecki’s Symphony No. 3, on which Megan is the featured vocalist throughout the three beautifully haunting movements of this well-known composition.

Keisuke Nakagoshi

Mr. Nakagoshi received training from some of the most celebrated musicians of our time - Emanuel Ax, Gilbert Kalish, Menahem Pressler, Robert Mann, Paul Hersh and David Zinman, and he has performed on concert stages across the United States, including the Kennedy Center, Carnegie Hall, the Hollywood Bowl, and Davies Symphony Hall in San Francisco. Among his collaborators are Lucy Shelton, Ian Swensen, Jodi Levitz, Robin Sutherland, Lev Polyakin, Axel Strauss, Mark Kosower, Gary Schocker and also conductors such as Alasdair Neale, George Daugherty, Nicole Paiement, Michael Tilson Thomas. In 2014, he made a solo debut with San Francisco Symphony on Ingvar Lidholm’s Poesis, with Herbert Blomstedt conducting.

 

In 2009, Keisuke and Swiss pianist Eva-Maria Zimmermann formed the piano duet team, ZOFO, and their first CD was nominated for a Grammy award for best chamber music/small ensemble in 2013. Mr. Nakagoshi is currently Pianist-in-Residence at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, and he serves as pianist in the production team for Opera Parallèle.

CASS PANUSKA

Cass Panuska is a classically trained soprano and voice teacher, and she is passionate about sharing beautiful music.  Her favorite performed opera roles include Countess Almaviva in Le nozze di Figaro, Donna Anna in Don Giovanni, Fiordiligi in Così fan tutte, and the Bergère and Screech Owl in Ravel’s L’Enfant et les Sortilèges.  In 2016, she premiered the role of Rosetta in Rosetta’s Stone, a new opera by John Bilotta, John McGrew, Jostein Stalheim, and Oded Ben-Horin.  Ms. Panuska earned her Master of Music degree in Vocal Performance at Colorado State University.  She has since enjoyed performing as a soloist with Opera San Jose’s Outreach Program, Solo Opera, Berkeley Opera, Pocket Opera, Opera Frontier, and Goat Hall Productions.  Ms. Panuska has also sung with Bracebridge Dinner Theatre and Operaworks Advanced Artist Program, and she currently teaches voice at New World Music Academy.

HADLEY McCARROLL

Pianist Hadley McCarroll, hailed for her “...lively and exhilarating...” pianism (San Francisco Classical Voice) is a well-known San Francisco Bay Area-based collaborative and solo pianist. She has performed throughout the United States, and internationally with, among others:  the Royal Danish Opera, San Francisco Opera, San Diego Opera, and Utah Festival Opera. With conductor Kent Nagano, she helped prepare works by Phillippe Manoury, Elliott Carter, and Unsuk Chin. She has enjoyed appearances on the Festival del Sole in Napa Valley, Composer’s Inc., and with Alonzo King's LINES Ballet, performing at the Chaillot Theater in Paris, and the Joyce Theater in New York. As the pianist of the cello/piano duo martha & monica, she recorded a CD at Skywalker Ranch, and produced two 3-concert festivals in San Francisco: one entitled “Out of The Box,” featuring several premieres, and a second year-long, residency “Turns of Centuries.” Equally at home as a soloist,  Hadley has given performances ranging from from "Sonatas and Interludes" by John Cage at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, as part of sfSoundSeries’ Cage Festival to  recitals of Beethoven, Ligeti, Liszt and Schumann at Old First Concerts. She frequently appears at the Center for New Music, where she performed in a 4-hand version of Stravinsky’s The Rite of Spring.  Ms. McCarroll received her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in piano performance from the University of Texas at Austin.

JUSTIN MARSH

Justin Farrell Marsh (tenor) has performed in numerous opera, oratorio and musical theater productions in cities throughout Germany, New York City, the San Francisco Bay Area, Cleveland and various locations in Pennsylvania (his home state). Also, Mr. Marsh has performed on television and radio across the USA and internationally, including being featured in ABC television’s “Christmas from the National Shrine of Saint Francis of Assisi” and in several international concerts for UNICEF.  Known for his lyrical voice and comedic acting abilities, he has received acclaim for his performances of Offenbach’s Gardefeu in La Vie Parisienne, Anthony in Sondheim’s Sweeney Todd, Ralph Rackstraw in Gilbert & Sullivan’s H.M.S. Pinafore, Freddy Eynsford-Hill in Lerner & Loewe’s My Fair Lady, and Mozart’s Don Ottavio in Don Giovanni, Don Basilio in Le Nozze di Figaro and Ferrando in Cosi Fan Tutte.   A specialist in contemporary composition, Mr. Marsh has performed in festivals of new works and collaborated with composers such as John Bilotta, Jeff Myers, Zachary Watkins, Patrick Dailly and Mark Alburger.   Mr. Marsh holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Music Performance from Indiana University of Pennsylvania and received his Master of Music degree in vocal performance from the Cleveland Institute of Music.  He currently lives with his husband in San Francisco, California.

ANDREW R. WHITE

Andrew R. White, BM, MM, AD, DMA, teaches private voice, as well as classes in diction, and vocal literature at the University of Nebraska Kearney. Previous faculty positions include Indiana University of Pennsylvania, University of Akron, Hiram College, Lake Erie College, Baldwin-Wallace Conservatory of Music, and Ashland University. Operatic appearances include Guglielmo in Cosi fan tutte, Endymion in Calisto, and Claudio in Beatrice and Benedict. Gilbert and Sullivan roles include Pirate King in The Pirates of Penzance, Pooh-bah in The Mikado, and Lord Chancellor in Iolanthe. Roles in musicals include Herold Hill in The Music Man, Billy Bigalow in Carousel, and Emile de Becque in South Pacific. He has won first prize in the VARN and Richardson competitions; other prizes include the NATSAA District Competition, the Alpha Corinne Mayfield Opera Award, and the Darius Milhaud Award. An advocate of contemporary music, he has performed new works in such cities as Boston, Cleveland, New York, San Francisco, and Vancouver. He made his New York debut in Weill Recital Hall in a program devoted to the songs of composer Frederick Koch. One reviewer hailed him as “…a formidable interpreter… Every song composer should be so lucky with collaborators.” He has a level III certification in Somatic Voiceworktm, the LoVetri Method, and has had articles published in American Music Teacher, Classical Singer, and Voice and Speech Review.
