THE VANDERBILT CHORALE
Choral music at Vanderbilt University can be traced back to 1895, when the Vanderbilt Men’s Glee Club toured and gave concerts throughout the country. The Vanderbilt Chorale was formed in 2012 to create an ensemble for students in the Blair School of Music (est. 1986) and highly qualifed non-music majors from other disciplines at Vanderbilt University. The Chorale is dedicated to authentic, expressive performance of a variety of musical styles, with performances ranging from Bach’s St. Matthew Passion to collaborations with the cutting-edge vocal ensemble Roomful of Teeth. The Chorale also forms the ‘core’ of the Vanderbilt Symphonic Choir, an ensemble dedicated to performing large choral works with the Vanderbilt Symphony Orchestra. Recent projects have included Haydn’s Creation, Bernstein’s Mass, and the Vaughan Williams Serenade to Music.
