Eliane Rodrigues was born in Rio de Janeiro. The fact that she was a child prodigy was noticeable at a very early age: she started composing at three, played her first recital at five, and performed with an orchestra at the ages of six and seven. From that moment on, she won prizes at numerous regional and national competitions, going on to win the special prize of the jury and the Gina Bachauer prize at the Van Cliburn Competition in the USA when she was just 18. She was also a laureate at the 1983 Queen Elisabeth Competition.

Since then, she has performed in major cities, including: Antwerp, Brussels, The Hague, Moscow, New York, Rio de Janeiro, St. Petersburg, Volgograd, Zurich, etc... She has also been invited regularly to De Doelen in Rotterdam to perform a Chopin recital on the day after Christmas.

1998 was an important year for Rodrigues: she was the leading artist at the Swiss music festival Música Romântica at which she not only performed solo, but conducted at and composed for as well.

In addition to this, she has been a professor at the Royal Conservatoire of Antwerp for many years.

She has also produced over 25 CD’s CDs, both live concerts and studio recordings. Amongst them Prokofiev’s five concertos and all of Beethoven’s concertos, including the triple

concerto, the transcription of the violin concerto and the choir fantasy.

Rodrigues is a colorful dragonfly  from  the far South. With her wings, she makes music that glitters like the Brazilian sun above Rio de Janeiro - the city of her birth. But she doesn’t shine, she also  glows. She gives brilliant and pure light. In her frail frame hides a mysterious force that only great concert pianists have. The hidden strength of artistic loneliness and vulnerability about which few know anything at all.

She radiates nothing other than effortlessness as she plays technically or emotionally complex pieces. When Rodrigues takes up an opus with her famous liveliness, the listener forgets all forgets all about these these technical elements. What he hears is the dragonfly hovering free through the eternal blue of the sky.
