Eli Tamar
Eli Tamar’s compositions have been recognized for their high emotional intensity and personal expression. His multi-cultural background (Russian-born Israeli-American) contributed greatly to his ability to explore and synthesize different elements of styles while transcending spiritual barriers between various musical, literary, and religious traditions.
His works were featured in such venues as “De Boni Arte” Foundation sacred series and “Великие Имена Исскуства” [Great Names in Art] Foundation in Russia, Prokofiev Museum and Jurgenson Hall in Moscow, and Carnegie Music Hall in Pittsburgh, to name a few.
He has composed for such artists as countertenor Andrey Nemzer (Metropolitan Opera soloist); Yekaterina Scherbachenko (soloist of The Bolshoi Theatre); Pavel Bykov and Svetlana Polianskaia (soloists of The Moscow State Philharmonia); Bulgarian-American bass, Guenko Guyechev; and American soprano Charlene Canty.
Charlene Canty
Soprano Charlene Canty has been acclaimed for her “sumptuous voice” and “beautiful tone”. An accomplished opera singer, she performed major roles in Norma (as Norma), The Ring Cycle, Porgy & Bess, Prima la Musica, Don Giovanni, Le Nozze di Figaro (the Countess), The Magic Flute, Suor Angelica, La Bohème, Gianni Schicchi, The Medium, and Hansel and Gretel. She was featured as a soloist in Carmina Burana, Vaughn Williams’s Dona Nobis Pacem, Haydn’s Lord Nelson Mass, the requiems of Mozart, Brahms, Faure, Verdi and Rutter and oratorios such as Handel’s Messiah, and J. S. Bach’s St. Matthew Passion and St. John Passion.
An avid interpreter of contemporary music, Canty performed as a soloist in American Premiere of Yuri Falik’s Mass, the Pittsburgh premiere of David Fanshawe’s African Sanctus, the World Premiere of Nathan Davis’s Just Above My Head, in Amy Beach’s Canticle of the Sun and the World Premiere of Eli Tamar’s Ave Maria. She can be heard on the recording of Efrain Amaya’s Clepsydra on Albany Records.
Andrey Nemzer
A third Prize Winner of Placido Domingo’s Operalia 2014 and The Winner of Metropolitan Opera National Council 2012, countertenor Andrey Nemzer has been a soloist with a number of distinguished opera houses and concert halls, such as Metropolitan Opera, Pittsburgh Symphony, Opera San Antonio, Spoleto Festival USA, San Francisco Opera, and Chautauqua Symphony. A native of Moscow (Russia), Nemzer frequently collaborates with many renowned instrumental and vocal ensembles in Russia and United States, including the Tchaikovsky Symphony Orchestra of Moscow Radio, Moscow Soloists Chamber Orchestra, Moscow Synod Choir, The Mendelssohn Choir of Pittsburgh and frequently appears on the stage of Opera Theater of Pittsburgh Summerfest. Andrey Nemzer was the Winner of the 2011 Mildred Miller International Voice Competition and the 2nd Prize Winner of the 2012 Gerda Lissner Foundation Competition.
Nicholas J. Will
Nicholas J. Will is an Assistant Professor of Music at Franciscan University of Steubenville, where in addition to teaching organ lessons and various music courses, directs the Schola Cantorum Franciscana and co-directs the university’s Sacred Music Program. Additionally, he serves as Director of Music at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, Carnegie, PA. A graduate of Duquesne University and the Peabody Institute,Will is a winner of the André Marchal Award for Excellence in Organ Performance (Duquesne), the Dorothy DeCourt Prize in Organ (Peabody), the Pittsburgh Concert Society’s Young Organists’ Audition, and the Duquesne University Concerto Competition. He has performed throughout the Eastern United States and Europe as an organist, accompanist, and conductor.
