A well-rounded artist and award-winning composer, Joel Nygren is a jazz pianist, composer, organist, recording engineer, and audio/visual system design engineer.
Joel has performed across the Northeast United States as a jazz pianist, beginning at the age of twelve. Through high school he performed regularly with a jazz trio, playing over sixty shows a year and having the honor of playing with jazz greats such as Wynton Marsalis, among others. Joel’s passion for music led him to the Peabody Conservatory in Baltimore, MD, at which he completed a degree in jazz piano performance in 2014. While at Peabody, he also earned a bachelor’s degree in recording engineering and a master’s degree in acoustics. While in Baltimore, Joel discovered his love for creating his own music and collaborating with other artists, and continues to develop his hand at composition and arranging.
As a recording engineer, Joel combines the art of creating music with the science behind capturing sound. He has worked on several album projects and continues to hone his style and expertise in multiple genres, including early music and classical groups, jazz and rock ensembles, and singer/songwriters. Along with his work in the studio, Joel’s degree in acoustics has led him to the audio/visual industry, where he designs and manages projects in Boston and throughout the world.
Joel continues to have exciting prospects for both music and the engineering world, and his versatile background allows him to take every opportunity as a chance to better himself and better the world. Joel currently resides in the greater Boston area with his beautiful wife, Rachel.
