Barbara Brown began her career as a flutist after graduating Sarah Lawrence College in 1980. She freelanced throughout the New York Metropolitan area for many years and performed regularly with regional orchestras. Her passion was in chamber music, performing in several chamber ensembles, most notably the Powell Quartet.
Barbara's music career shifted towards music education. She became a certified Kodály music educator and served on the faculty of New York University's Kodály summer certification program for several years. She taught music and directed children's choral programs in New York for over 16 years.
In 2004 a total career shift happened as Barbara and husband Kevin moved to California. Kevin was deep into the wine business, and the passion of making wine was too much to resist for Barbara. They decided to take a "side project" winery of Kevin's (R&B Cellars) and develop it into a full-fledged winery. Today R&B Cellars produces 15 award-winning wines over 18 varietals, distributes across the US and exports to China. Their winery, tasting room, and production facility Riggers Loft Wine Company are located in the East Bay of San Francisco.
Music is still an integral part of Barbara's life. She and Kevin perform jazz together, often performing for winery functions.
