Navona Records presents HEDGEHOG’S HOME, a classic tale centered on the importance of caring for our natural habitat. Based on the original children’s story by Bosnian Serb author Branko Ćopić, this adaptation for the Zagreb Philharmonic Orchestra was originally premiered in September 2019 at Zagreb’s Vatroslav Lisinski Hall under the baton of then maestro David Danzmayr. A time-tested narrative in an all new form, this presentation of Hedgehog’s Home serves as a gentle and artistically driven reminder not to take our respective abodes for granted.

Zagreb Philharmonic Orchestra
The Zagreb Philharmonic Orchestra boasts 150 years of tradition of first-class musicianship in Zagreb and across Croatia. It acts as a promoter of the art of music in Croatia and a cultural ambassador of Croatia in the world. It is a symbol of the city in which it operates and a musical institution that captures the urban image of Zagreb as a central European musical, art and cultural centre.
Notes
Hedgehog’s Home is a story about caring for your natural habitat. Set in the rustling environment of the forest, we find wild creatures in contention about the meaning of “home.” Is it a place commonly taken for granted, or is it something to be cherished and protected? Despite the persuasions of charming Miss Fox and the jeers of the angry wolf, the hedgehog steadfastly proves that his home is his castle, reminding us all that we each need to care for our respective abodes.
The premiere of Hedgehog’s Home at Zagreb’s Vatroslav Lisinski Hall in September 2019 was done and staged under the conducting of maestro David Danzmayr, who was chief conductor of the Zagreb Philharmonic at the time. This recorded performance was conducted by maestro Dinko Appelt, who led performances in Zagreb after Maestro Danzmayr.
Director Petra Radin originally started the idea of adapting this famous story with the Zagreb Philharmonic Orchestra, and subsequently chose actors and singers, and directed for the stage performance.
