FANFARE SUITE, the latest from composer Mark John McEncroe and Navona Records, features six pieces originally scored for full orchestra on McEncroe’s 2015 album Affirmations & Aspirations. Now, with the help of the Sydney Scoring Orchestra, these sweeping and provocative pieces have been reimagined and rearranged for concert band. Evoking the promise of big horizons and wide open spaces, McEncroe’s compositions are reminiscent of Aaron Copland and Western films from the golden age of Hollywood. Still, the music of FANFARE SUITE is not rooted in a single geographic location; rather, the hopeful vitality of this music universally appeals to the human spirit.

Mark John McEncroe
Australian composer and classically trained pianist Mark John McEncroe writes for solo piano and orchestras of all sizes. His compositions have been performed throughout Europe, Australia, and the United States, with the biggest highlight to date being a concert at Carnegie Hall’s Stern Auditorium in February 2020.
Notes
When I think of the Fanfare Suite, I think of Aaron Copland and wide open spaces, big horizons, the Grand Canyon, John Ford/John Wayne movies etc. However I’m not American so I’d like to think of it as more universal in its “grandness.”
All six pieces on this album were originally scored for full orchestra, performed by the Janáček Philharmonic on my 2015 album Affirmations & Aspirations. Conductor Anthony Armoré suggested to me that this repertoire would be very suitable for concert band, particularly Fanfare Suite. I then recorded it with the Sydney Scoring Orchestra, a composite studio orchestra which for this session were mostly all members of the Sydney Symphony Orchestra. Two of the symphonic poems redone here, The Passing and A Celebration of The Natural World, were released on MY SYMPHONIC POEMS (2018, Navona Records) in their original orchestral form. A live performance of The Passing (original orchestration) is also on LIVE IN OSTRAVA (2019, Navona Records).
This is the first appearance of my Fanfare Suite on Navona Records, and the concert band scores will be available through Wirripang.
