David Eccott lives and works as a peripatetic instrumental music teacher, specializing in piano and brass in his home county of Kent in England. He studied trombone with Denis Wick, former principal trombone with the London Symphony Orchestra, and piano with Robert Collett at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London. He has worked as an orchestral freelance trombonist and was an examiner for The Associated Board of The Royal Schools of Music for 23 years. He also composes. His Concertino For Oboe And Small Orchestra and his symphonic poem Rochester Creek: Scenes From PreColumbian Utah for large orchestra have recently won online composition competitions. The 1st movement of his Concerto For Orchestra was awarded 3rd place in a composition competition in France, and his Little Fantasy Overture On A Theme Of Richard Strauss for brass quintet was awarded 1st prize in the 2015 SBALZ International Composition Competition organized by the Spanish Brass quintet. In 2016 his Three Impromptus For Three Trombones was awarded 2nd prize in the Richard Myers Memorial Composition Contest in Buffalo NY. In 1997, Eccott’s Fast Track Trombone Tutor was published by Kevin Mayhew, and his study of the French composer Florent Schmitt was published in Frederick Delius: Music, Art And Literature (Ed. Dr. Lionel Carley) by Ashgate Publishing in 1998. Bardic Music Publishers has recently published Eccott’s Five Jazz Interludes for solo piano, and are shortly to publish his Songs From The Labyrinth for tenor voice and piano.
