Catherine Neville (b. 1974) is a composer of concert music for instrumental ensembles and choir. An alumna of Interlochen Arts Academy, her experiences as a clarinetist and music theorist led to studying composition with Jeff Nichols. Performed and commissioned by ensembles and solo artists alike, Neville specializes in creating works that blend aspects of tonality and serial techniques, resulting in a unique and highly expressive musical language. Her music is heard in venues across the northeast United States and internationally, with premieres in New York’s Carnegie Hall and London’s Pissarro Gallery, as well as Washington DC, Seattle, Paris, and Perugia, Italy.

Neville’s debut album, Hold Your Center, was released in May of 2022, exploring themes of self-discovery. Her commissions include Three Pieces on Paintings by Kandinsky for electric guitar and vibraphone (Ictus Novus), A Year Later for solo harp (Joseph Rebman, harpist), and Once, In Early Spring, for flute, horn, and piano (the Heavy Metal trio). Cellist Ovidiu Marinescu and pianist Noreen Cassidy-Polera share a shining example on RESURGENCE. Featuring the works of several contemporary composers, this Navona Records release offers reflections on emergence and transformation, the throes of long distance love, the great artists of our past and present, the fusion of several musical influences, and more. Leveraging refined elegance in sound and raw virtuosity in approach, RESURGENCE is a thoughtful exploration into the expressive capabilities of the cello and the piano both as individual entities and a cohesive voice.
