Alan Rinehart has over 45 years of experience as a professional classical guitarist with many contributions to the guitar world as a performer, teacher, and music editor. Upon completing university, he studied lute repertoire and technique in London, England at the Early Music Centre.
From 1983 to 2003, Rinehart was a faculty member of the music schools at the University of British Columbia and Vancouver Community College. He recently had the honor of performing for their Royal Highnesses the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge during their 2016 Royal Tour visit to British Columbia.
He has released seven solo albums and one album with the Vancouver Guitar Quartet, to international critical praise. His sixth solo album, VERDI’S GUITAR (Ravello, 2017), was chosen by Classical Guitar Magazine as one of the top 10 recordings of the year. DREAMS LAID DOWN (Ravello), featuring serene music for guitar was released in 2018, and Rinehart’s recent 2021 solo album SYLVIUS LEOPOLD WEISS (Ravello) arranges Weiss’s baroque lute works for 6 string guitar.
